Ageing glue

As you perfectly know, our C59 Italia frame is build by bonding composite tubes and lugs together with a special glue. Talking with fans, they often ask me what kind of glue is used, there’s often confusion with the adhesive resin and a major concern is the bond strength.

Thanks to our internal laboratory we could improve our glue in order to obtain the perfect interface between the tubes and lugs. We recently carried out tests on the glue and treatment of pre-bonding fiber. We tested both the situations at the end of the process and after a (simulated) lifetime of 25yrs.

As you can see from the photo gallery, the specimens were subjected to tensile force and we recorded the maximum strength allowed. Other specimens, with the same specifications, have been treated in special tanks to simulate aging and force the moisture absorption. Then thanks to another tensile strenght-test we were able to check the tightness of our bonding time.

Trust us, the bonding is strong enough!

Voeckler headlines French squad for worlds

Colnago-backed Thomas Voeckler will headline the French national squad for the upcoming road world cycling championships, set for September 25 in Copenhagen.

Voeckler, the national champion in 2010, will lead the nine-man team for the elite men’s 266km race on a course that should deliver a surprise finale.

Many are expecting a sprint finish, but the longer distance and unpredictable weather mean that attackers like Voeckler will be in with a solid chance to win the coveted rainbow jersey.

Voeckler has been enjoying his best season ever, with eight victories, 10 days in the yellow jersey and fourth overall at the Tour de France.

Modolo, Belletti named to Italian world’s squad

Colnago will have a high-profile presence in one of the season’s most important dates as Sacha Modolo and Manuel Belletti were both named to Italy’s nine-man squad for the world road cycling championships.

Modolo will be one of the team’s best options for the favored Italian squad, but Italian national coach Paolo Bettini said the Copenhagen circuit will be harder than many expect.

“For the road race, the philosophy will be ‘one for all’,” Bettini said in a press conference Tuesday to announce the starting nine riders. “I am not so sure it will be a sprint finish. It’s a hard and nervous course and after 266km, a sprint will not be guaranteed.”

Modolo has been on a hot streak since July, winning 10 races to confirm that he is one of the best young sprinters in the peloton.

Belletti, too, will have his chances to ride into breakaways and to set up the team’s fastest sprinters.

“We will see how the race develops,” Bettini said. “We bring a very strong and motivated squad. We go to Copenhagen with the highest aspirations.”

Modolo wins again, takes lead at Padania

Sacha Modolo powered his Colnago across the finish line for yet another victory.

The Colnago-CSF Inox sprinter also recaptured the race leader’s jersey with the win in the 225km third stage from Lonato Pozzolo to Salsomaggiore.

The team directed by Roberto Reverberi worked to set up the sprint, with Manuel Belletti crossing the line sixth on the stage after helping to set up Modolo for another dramatic victory.

The win pushes Modolo into double-digits on the 2011 season with 10, with all them coming since July.

Modolo’s hot streak comes with perfect timing ahead of the world championships later this month on a sprinter-friendly course in Copenhagen.

Modolo roars to victory, lead at Padania

There’s no stopping Sacha Modolo, who roared to victory Tuesday and into the leader’s jersey in the opening stage at the Giro di Padania in Italy.

Hot off winning three races in the past two weeks, with victory at the Coppa Agostoni and two stages at the Settimana Lombarda, Modolo did it again with another impressive victory.

Modolo kicked to victory ahead of Elia Viviani, with Colnago-CSF Inox teammate Manuel Belletti crossing the line third.

“I cannot help but congratulate the entire team,” said sport director Roberto Reverberi. “We worked with Liquigas to chase down the two breakaway riders. Then the entire team collaborated to assure the success of the sprint. It was a perfect finale, with Modolo and Belletti just flying. Sacha dominated the sprint.”

The victory is Modolo’s ninth on the 2011 season and all have come since July when he returned to racing after a break following the Giro d’Italia.

The hot streak bodes well for his chances to headline the Italian squad at the upcoming world championships in Copenhagen on September 25.

Modolo, Belletti finish 1-2 in Lombarda

Colnago-CSF Inox was back in the winner’s circle as Sacha Modolo and Manuel Belletti finished first and second in the second stage at the Settimana Lombarda on September 1.

The victory is the seventh on the 2011 season for Modolo, who’s been on a great run since the Tour of Qinghai Lake in July.

Modolo, 24, was also second behind Mark Cavendish in the Olympic test event in August and won the Coppa Agostoni in Italy three days later.

The recent streak of great results also bodes well for Modolo’s chances to be named to Italy’s nine-man team for the upcoming world championships, to be held September 25 in Copenhagen.

The big win comes a day after Simone Stortoni finished second in Wednesday’s opening stage.
