Colnago wins again at the Tour de France

Colnago unveiled its lat­est col­lec­tion of bikes via its new web­site on the eve of the Tour de France. Thomas Voeckler and Pierre Rolland imme­di­ately showed off the stun­ning new black C59 Italia Team Edition and Colnago M10 S bikes, win­ning back-to-back stages in the Alps. Rolland went on to fin­ish eighth over­all, while Voeckler won another moun­tain stage in the Pyrenees and pulled on the iconic polka-dot jer­sey in Paris as win­ner of the climber’s com­pe­ti­tion. It was another hugely suc­cess­ful Tour de France for Colnago.

First road rac­ing bike with Hydraulic Disc Braking System

Colnago sparked a new era in bike design and intro­duced a new level of brak­ing per­for­mance and safety by cre­at­ing the Colnago C59 Disc bike. The Colnago C59 Disc is a high per­for­mance road bike fit­ted with fully hydraulic front and rear brakes. The frame and forks have been designed specif­i­cally for the new brak­ing sys­tem, offer­ing a per­fect bal­ance between road bike per­for­mance and brak­ing control.

Ernesto Colnago turned 80 on February 8 and the com­pany cel­e­brated his life of inno­v­a­tive bike design and love for cycling with the spe­cial C59 Ottanta bike. Just 80 exam­ples of the bike were made and it imme­di­ately became a collector’s items. The C59 Ottanta has a stun­ning gold fin­ish and is equipped with the best pos­si­ble car­bon fibre com­po­nents, includ­ing a Campagnolo Super Record EPS 11 elec­tronic groupset.

Thomas Voeckler became a national hero as he fought to defend the Tour de France leader’s yel­low jer­sey in the sec­ond half of the 2011 race. And his spe­cial yel­low Colnago C59 Italia bike drew as much admi­ra­tion as his fight­ing spirit.

Sven Nys win his 13th Superprestige

Sven Nys is the king of cyclo-cross and despite fac­ing sev­eral younger rivals, he again showed his huge tal­ent and con­sis­tency by win­ning a record break­ing 13th Superprestige title. He also won an eighth Belgian national title and qual­i­fied for the London 2012 Olympic Mountain bike race. Nys is pure class.

Niels Albert win Cross World Championship

Niels Albert strug­gled with a hand injury for much of the win­ter but had a day of grace in front of thou­sands of Belgian fans in Koksijde and won the world title using a Colnago Prestige bike that was per­fect for the tech­ni­cally test­ing course. Albert con­firmed he is the future star of cyclo-cross.

Colnago CSF - Inox team founded

Ernesto Colnago decides to sup­port a young road rac­ing team, Colnago CSF - Inox, com­pris­ing mostly rid­ers under the age of 26. For 2010 Colnago will also sup­port French Bbox Bouygues Telecom squad, the Landbouwkrediet team and Team Type 1 in the USA. Plus, Colnago expands into a new arena with the Colnago Triathlon Team.

Colnago America is estab­lished in Chicago, Illinois as a wholly owned sub­sidiary of Colnago to improve ser­vice and choice to Colnago cus­tomers in the USA. Special colour schemes and cus­tom bicy­cles are once again avail­able to American riders.

The EPS and CX-1

A descen­dent of the Extreme Power and the C50, the EPS is Colnago’s stiffest lugged com­pos­ite frame ever. Colnago adopts a semi-integrated head­set, C-HS, to com­bine the advan­tages of an inte­grated design with the ease of main­te­nance of a tra­di­tional head­set. Alongside the EPS, Colnago launches the mono­coque CX-1, an ultra-light and stiff frame.

Petacchi wins the Paris-Tours

Alessandro Petacchi wins the final sprint in Paris-Tours on his Colnago Extreme Power. It was the first suc­cess in this clas­sic ProTour cir­cuit for him. It was his team­mate Erik Zabel to launch the sprint Petacchi.

Great German sprinter Erik Zabel at the EPS’s launch at the 2008 Tour de France. Zabel was the first offi­cial test rider of this suc­cess­ful Colnago bicycle.

At a spe­cial cer­e­mony at the Quirinale in Rome, Ernesto Colnago receive the pres­ti­gious title of Cavaliere del Lavoro (Knight of Industry) from the President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano.
