Colnago can celebrate yet another world title after Eva Lechner and Beltrain Schmid helped Italy win the cross country team relay world title in Saalfelden Leogang, Austria.
The Italian quartet beat France by a single second in a sprint finish, with Germany third at 1:23.
In a tactically smart race plan, Elite men rider Marco Aurelio Fontana was the first rider of the Italian quartet, blasting around the course in a time of 12:39. Junior men rider Beltrain Schmid rode the second leg on his green and white Colnago, then Lechner took over, riding her Colnago C29 Italia carbon fibre bike. She lifted Italy from third to second in the standings. Under 23 men rider Luca Braidot took over for the final leg and secured Italy the world title with an inspired ride and a perfect final sprint to the line ahead of France.
The Italian team all pulled on world champion’s rainbow jerseys on the podium, with Lechner proudly leading the celebrations.
