Gran Fondo fever grips San Diego

The Gran Fondo experience returns to San Diego

Gran Fondo fever grips San Diego

San Diego is the place to be on Sunday when 3,000 riders join ex-Olympic and world champion Paolo Bettini on the start line for the second edition of the Gran Fondo Colnago San Diego.

The event has been sold out for weeks such was the success of the first edition last year. “We were very surprised all 3,000 places went before the day itself. We were expecting a large number but the response has been incredible,” says event director Matteo Gerevini.

The build-up begins on Saturday with the Gran Fondo Colnago Expo in the south lot of the County Administration Building. There will be displays of the latest cycling gear, deals on bike clothing and equipment, and a whole lot more.

2004 Olympic champion Bettini will be the honorary starter for the three Gran Fondo route options on Sunday morning.

If you missed out on entry this time, registration for the inaugural Gran Fondo Colnago Philadelphia opens very soon. “Our friends on the east coast also want to enjoy the Gran Fondo experience. We’re getting lots of enquiries about this event on August 8,” says Gerevini.
