Rudy Von Berg takes the win at 70.3 European Championship

Still-rising U.S. star Von Berg overcame a 7th place 39 seconds deficit after the swim with a race-best 2:01:36 bike split – 1:38 better than the next-best effort of his rivals – that gave him a 1:29 lead over German Florian Angert and 3:34 over Gomez at T2. On his way to a 4th-fastest 1:11:23 run split, Von Berg withstood a race-best 1:07:45 half marathon by Gomez to finish in 3:39:31 with an 11 seconds margin of victory over Gomez and 1:18 over 3rd place finisher and Gomez’s countryman Pablo Dapena Gonzalez.
The win continued Von Berg’s 2019 hot streak which includes a win at St. George 70.3, a 2nd at Oceanside 70.3 behind Ben Kanute, and 3rd at Challenge the Championship behind Sebastian Kienle.
