Brugge-De Panne: another podium for Bastianelli

Marta Bastianelli third at Brugge-De Panne. Another WorldTour podium for UAE Team ADQ

UAE Team ADQ confirms to be at the highest level. Today achieved another important result, a third place at the Oxyclean Classic Brugge-De Panne with Marta Bastianelli. A comeback sprint for the Italian rider and third step of the podium behind the world champion Elisa Balsamo (Trek-Segafredo) and the Dutch Lorena Wiebes (Team DSM), respectively first and second in the sprint.

After Sofia Bertizzolo's second place in Cittiglio last Sunday, another UCI WorldTour podium finish for UAE Team ADQ.

This race officially opened the long month of the Northern Classics and saw some of the best riders in the international women's cycling scene line up at the start. The day was race at a high speed, with several breakaway attempts, but the peloton always kept the situation under control. There were also several crashes. One split the bunch in the final kilometres. There were about 20 riders left in front and at that moment there was a lot of work by the Emirati team with Eugenia BujakAnna Trevisi and Maaike Boogaard serving Bastianelli.

Then a crash also involved Anna Trevisi in the final and Marta Bastianelli had to recover the gap, but despite the effort she was able to make a great comeback sprint and get a very positive result for her and that repays the team for all the efforts.

Marta Bastianelli said: "It's a pity for that crash of my teammate in the final that created a small gap and I had to make an extra effort to close on the girls in front. In the final I tried to do my best during the sprint and this third place arrived. I’m very satisfied with my physical condition. Today's finish was very complicated and dangerous, with a lot of bends and a lot of road narrowings, so I'm very happy with what I managed to achieve. The team worked very well in the last five kilometres and we look forward to the next races".

On Sunday 27th March the same team will line up at the start of the 159km Gent-Wevelgem race from Ypres to Wevelgem.
